One of the great joys of our sailing years was whenever we were joined by dolphins. There are lots of them off the Welsh Coast, and we had the pleasure of their acrobatic cabarets also in the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay

On Thursday, The Bishop Of Swansea and Brecon, the Right Reverend Lord Bishop Anthony Pierce came to Llys Nini to dedicate and open the Rainbow Bridge. It was also a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the opening of the lovely animal re-homing centre at Penllegaer, Swansea, after its move from the old Dogs’ Home at Singleton Park, Swansea.. It was ‘Bin Day’ today.
We have got our landfill bag down to one smallish black bag per week, and nearly all of that is made up of unnecessary packaging from shops. I spent 15 minutes yesterday trying to extract four printer cartridges from their impermiable and unassailable thick plastic armour. The old cartridges have been saved for recycling, but the plastic had to go into the black bag. (more…)

This year, for the first time, we took our dog away with us to Europe.
Clearly we had followed all the Defra rules about the Pet Passport. She had had her anti-rabies jab and the blood test one month later. Then the necessary time had passed before we left (six months since the blood test) for us to be able to return to the UK in a hurry, should it have been necessary. On the advice of my vet, (more…)

As volunteer animal ambulance drivers at Llys Nini Animal Rescue Centre, we regularly transport a variety of animals to and from the local vet.
This entails going in and out of the centre’s vast grounds at hours when the centre is closed to the public, early in the morning and late in the evening. (more…)

Someone I know was having occasional visits from individual members of a family of mice.
Being a kindly sort of a chap, he bought a ‘Humane mousetrap’, in order to be able to remove each uninvited guest from his home without harming it. (more…)
