The South Wales Evening Post today reported a ’shock’ increase in animal cruelty in the last year.
The BBC ran a similar story this morning.
However, whilst the figures are distressing and the number of badly treated animals is disgracefully high, the fact is that the 2007 Animal Welfare Act is doing exactly what it was meant to do.

Regular visitors to my little blog will know that on a couple of days a week, we drive the ambulance for the RSPCA in Swansea. Today we had to take a beautiful grey and white cat, aged possibly about two years, to the vet for a check-up, after she arrived at the Centre. She had been brought in by one of the Animal Collection Officers from Mountain Ash where she had been found straying in the past couple of days. (more…)

This morning, I came upon some old friends via the internet.
When I am feeling a bit nostalgic, I occasionally turn to the ‘Costa Blanca News’, an English language newspaper published on Fridays in Spain. It was from this week’s paper that the names of Peter & Teresa Cunliffe leapt from the screen at me.

Great news!
A substantial number of dogs and cats who have been lovingly cared for by the staff at Llys Nini, Penllegaer near Swansea, are at long last available for re-homing. They are special animals who have had a less than perfect start in life and who have then been obliged to spend two years at the Animal Centre (more…)

It was a beautiful day on Easter Saturday. The Fund-raising Committee at Llys Nini had organised an Easter Bonnet competition and an Easter Egg Hunt for the local children.
There was a small entry fee (it was, after all a fund raising day as well as a ‘fun day’), with concessions for family groups. (more…)
