Holocaust denial ?

I received an E-mail yesterday in the form of a chain letter.

Rather than pass it to friends as an E-mail, I decided instead to refer to it here.

In a world where history is re-written to suit the political leanings of the writers, we shouldn’t be surprised that things are not always told in a way that we can readily recognise them.

This is the message I received:

In Memoriam
Recently this week, the UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it “offended” the Moslem population which claims it never occurred.
This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.
It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.
This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia
(sic) peoples looking the other way!
Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be “a myth,” it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.
This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!
Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world.
Please send this e-mail to 10 people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain……

However, a little research has shown that even this might have undertones of spin …!– D([“mb”,”u003cbr>u003cbr>Please don’t delete, it will only take you a minute to pass this on.u003cbr>”,1] ); D([“mb”,”u003cspan classu003dad>u003cbr>u003c/span>”,1] ); D([“mb”,”u003c/span>u003c/font>u003c/div>u003c/div>u003c/div>u003c/td>u003c/tr>u003c/tbody>u003c/table>u003c/div>u003c/div>”,1] ); D([“mb”,”u003cspan classu003dad>u003cp> nnn u003chr sizeu003d”1″> nYahoo! So it’s not denial then, it’s revisionism is it?

Based on what I have read in the British media, I’m inclined to guess that the author of the chain email is a well intentioned individual whose emotions overwhelmed them as they read the intial news stories. It’s true that a number of teachers and schools in the UK (and journalistic accounts do not make clear how widespread this situation had been) had chosen to drop the topic of the Holocaust from the curriculum for fear of having conflicts with students and families who had strong anti-Semitic and Holocaust denying beliefs.

However, almost immediately after this phenomenon had become known to the general public, the outcry was such that Holocaust education has now been strengthened in UK schools.

Actually, the author is clearly trying to invoke some spin to rally the Right-wing into some sort of action. This is agitprop, pure and simple.
